Wir freuen uns, Sie gemeinsam mit der Kulturstiftung des Bundes zur Pressekonferenz anlässlich der Veröffentlichung von RomArchive – Digitales Archiv der Sinti und Roma einzuladen. Hier werden Ihnen Einblick in das Gesamtprojekt sowie in das Programm des Eröffnungsfestivals gegeben.

Seit Jahrhunderten ist die künstlerische Produktion von Sinti und Roma Teil der europäischen Kulturgeschichte und hat diese stark beeinflusst. RomArchive, das digitale Archiv der Sinti und Roma, macht diese Beiträge jetzt endlich sichtbar. Seine Sammlung enthält Objekte aus zehn Archivbereichen: Bildende Kunst, Film, Flamenco, Literatur, Musik, Tanz, Theater & Drama, Bilderpolitik, Bürgerrechtsbewegung der Sinti und Roma, und Holocaust („Voices of the Victims“). Die Objekte konzentrieren sich auf die Selbstdarstellung und stammen aus Privatsammlungen, Museen, Archiven und Bibliotheken weltweit.

Durch von Roma und Sinti selbst erzählte Geschichten schafft RomArchive eine im Internet zugängliche, verlässliche Wissensquelle – international und dreisprachig in Englisch, Deutsch und Romanes. Konsequent den Prinzipien der Selbstdarstellung folgend, gestalten Sinti und Roma das Archiv in allen verantwortlichen Positionen – als Kurator_innen, Künstler_innen, Wissenschaftler_innen und Mitglieder des Beirats – und halten so Stereotypen und Vorurteilen den Reichtum ihrer Kulturen entgegen.

Anlässlich der Veröffentlichung der Archiv-Webseite zeigt das interdisziplinäre Festival „Performing RomArchive“ diese Vielseitigkeit ganz analog – mit einem Programm in der Akademie der Künste in Berlin, das überraschen, begeistern und zu Diskussionen anregen möchte. We are pleased to invite you together with the German Federal Cultural Foundation to a press conference on the occasion of the launch of RomArchive – Digital Archive of the Roma. Here we will provide you with insights into the overall project as well as the programme of the opening festival.

For centuries, Romani artistic production has been part of, and strongly influenced, European cultural history. RomArchive, the Digital Archive of the Roma allows these contributions to finally be seen. Its collection contains materials from ten archive sections: Dance, Film, Flamenco, Literature, Music, Theatre & Drama, Visual Arts, Politics of Photography, the Romani Civil Rights Movement, and the Holocaust (“Voices of the Victims”). These materials focus on self-representation and have been acquired from private collections, museums, archives, and libraries around the world.

By means of narratives told by Roma themselves, RomArchive offers a reliable source of knowledge that is accessible through the Internet—internationally in three languages (English, German, and Romanes). Consistently following the principles of Romani self-representation, RomArchive is shaped by Roma in various positions of responsibility—as curators, artists, scholars, and board members, who by their presence counteract stereotypes and prejudices with the richness of their cultures.

On the occasion of the publication of the archive website, the interdisciplinary festival “Performing RomArchive” shows this versatility in a similar way—with a programme at the Akademie der Künste in Berlin that aims to surprise, inspire and stimulate discussion.
